Lurreko Gauzak (The Things of the Earth) is a celebration of the rich and vibrant choral traditions of the Basque Country, presented in collaboration between Lassenne Vocale and the Bruselako Euskal Etxea – the Basque House in Brussels.
This program blends sacred beauty, earthy folk heritage, and contemporary creativity. The first half features spiritual and lyrical works by leading Basque composers, including Javier Busto, Josu Elberdin, Xabier Sarasola, and David Azurza. Their music offers both serene devotion and rhythmic vitality, deeply rooted in the region’s musical language.
The second half turns toward the voice of the land—lurreko gauzak—through evocative folk-inspired songs and traditional melodies. Highlights include festive wedding songs and winter reflections, as well as two special arrangements: Ezra Permana Trisna’s Loa Loa Txuntxurrun Berde, a sweet and melodious reimagining of a traditional tune, and the world premiere of Toby Wardman’s Tsoriak suite—three short musical gems inspired by Basque bird songs. The concert closes with Aita Donostia’s Iru Txito, a charming miniature that echoes the rustic grace of Basque village life.Through this collaboration, Lurreko Gauzak brings together cultures and voices in a shared celebration of memory, place, and song.
